Day trip
Meteora
The rock pillars of Meteora rise above the town of Kalambaka, with monasteries built on their summits. It is one of the great sights of Greece and an easy day trip from Stomio.
A natural and spiritual wonder
Shaped over millions of years, the rocks have been home to monks for about six centuries, which is why Meteora is often called the second Mount Athos. Today it is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and several monasteries are open to visitors.
Planning your visit
Meteora is about 130 km from Stomio. Leave early to enjoy the monasteries before the crowds, and wear clothing that covers shoulders and knees. On very clear days you can even see the rocks from the summit of Kissavos.
