Between the mountain and the sea there is something for every pace, from a slow walk on the beach to a 70-metre waterfall abseil.
Hiking on Kissavos
Two marked trails start from Stomio and one from Karitsa. Most of the way runs through chestnut, fir and plane forest with views over the Aegean. From the summit you see Mount Olympus, Pelion, the Thessaly plain, Halkidiki, and on very clear days Meteora and Mount Athos.
Summit about 2 hours: 40 min drive + 80 min walk
Velika – Melivia gorge trail
A shaded trail that follows the Velika gorge from the sea up to the village of Melivia, under plane, walnut and chestnut trees and thick ferns.
Forest trail, all levels
Canyoning at the Kalypso gorge
Above the seaside village of Kokkino Nero, on the road to Karitsa, a dirt track leads into the Kalypso gorge. Its waterfall drops about 70 metres into clear natural pools, one of the finest canyoning spots in Europe.
