The mountain
Mount Kissavos (Ossa)
Right behind Panorama rises Kissavos, the Mount Ossa of Greek mythology: a green mountain of forests, springs, gorges and waterfalls that drops straight into the Aegean.
Forests and gorges
The slopes facing the sea get the most rain, so they are covered in chestnut, beech and fir. Deep ravines run down to the coast; the most famous is the Kalypso gorge with its waterfall, natural pools and cliffs.
Villages
Traditional villages such as Karitsa, Melivia, Ambelakia and Spilia sit on its slopes, with stone houses, squares under plane trees and local chestnuts in autumn.
On the summit
The summit can be reached in about two hours from Stomio: a 40-minute forest drive and an 80-minute walk. The view takes in Olympus, Pelion, the Thessaly plain and the whole Aegean coast.
