The coastal settlement of Stomio is located at the foot of the mountain Ossa (Kissavos) in place of the ancient city Evrimenes on the East coast of Central Greece, 48km from Larisa City, 60km from Olympus first climbing base (Prionia) and 130km form Meteora Kalambaka. Surrounded by sea and mountain, Stomio is a quiet place, perfect for relaxation and peace of mind away from the big city’s noise and the crowdy touristic places. Because of it's climate it is the ideal place to visit it all four seasons.
From the 20th of April till 15th of May the temperature during the day is around 26 ° C. The golden sand is ideal for relaxing under the sun or enjoying a walk by the sound of the waves overlooking the sea and the green forests Osse giving you a sense of peace and tranquility. The temperature of the sea is warm enough to enjoy it, but also do water sports like wind surfing, kitesurfing, snorkelling, fishing. Within a short distance from the beach hidden in the mount Ossa (Kissavos) is the Calypso Gorge. An enchanting 70 meter waterfall with two swimming pools await you to explore it and find your "lost earth paradise"! The peak of Kissavos is 1974m is just two hours away from Stomio. 40 minutes driving to the beautiful forest asphalt roads and 80 minutes of hiking to get to the top. From there the view is magnificent. you will see almost 1 / 5th of Greece, from Halkidiki to Olympus and from Thessalian plain to Meteora and Pelion. In the mountains there are many organized trails for hiking, mountain biking and enduro cycling.
After 15th of May and till the 15th of September the temperature is rising. Perfect time to enjoy a nice cocktail under the sun. Most tourists visiting Stomio during the high season are locals from the surrounding areas with more traffic on weekends.
From the 15th September until the end of October the temperature drops a bit. The sea is still warm and few people relax on the beach enjoying the serene landscape.
From November until the end of March the landscape changes. The leaves fall from the trees and the mountain is full of red and yellow colors. The temperature is about 10 ° C to 20 ° C at sea level. The days are mostly sunny and the temperature at sea is decreasing quite a bit. Some "bold" swimmers and surfers still enjoy the sea. In the middle of winter the snow falls on most of the mountain side 300 meters above sea level. When the snow begins to fall at Stomio, the coast turns white. Some thick fogs cover the sea and the landscape looks like a fairy tale. It gives you the impression that an old pirate ship will appear through the fog and dock on the sand. The hunting season opens for wild pigs and rabbits. Time to relax next to the fireplace overlooking the Aegean Sea and the snowy Olympos enjoying a traditional dish of wild boar accompanied by a glass of good red wine while a soft jazz music playing in the background. In winter the Sundays are ideal for hiking to the monastery of Agios Dimitrios, located 3 km away from Stomio. After the Ceremony, people gather in the courtyard area of Monastiri and discuss enjoying a cup of Greek traditional coffee.
